Being a DJ can be expensive. You have a load of equipment to buy and then you have to invest the time to learn it, use the software, and create awesome music. Believe it or not, there are some decent DJ apps. There aren’t any currently that can run the whole show but you can use these to augment a setup and make it a little bit better.
Music apps are becoming more and more advanced these days, and when it comes specifically for DJ’s or those wanting to scratch, mix or tweak some tunes, we’re in luck since there are quite a few capable solutions out there.
We found a mixture of all of the above to help out your search through the rubble:
1. DJ Player
If you’re looking for an app that offers pro-level tools, then DJ Player is worth a serious look. As well as being MIDI capable, it offers pro features such as beat matching, tempo syncing, pitch bending, slip mode, and multiple effects per deck.
It’s got excellent control features for DJing and there’s a good selection of effects too. You can record your mixes using the free version, but the audio is interrupted for about five seconds every time an upgrade reminder appears on-screen.

2. DJay 2
Up next we have another pick as the best DJ app specifically designed for your iPads but also compatible with iPhone and Android, the djay 2 – the next generation of one of the world’s best DJ apps. The djay 2 transforms your device into a full-featured DJ software and controller that integrates music directly from your iTunes music library and Spotify. The app allows you to spin live, record mixes on-the-go, or even enable the party-friendly ‘Automix mode’ which creates seamless mixes for you automatically. It also comes equipped with different audio FX but also gives you the option to download FX expansion packs that have over 30 DJ sound FX.
3. Cross DJ
Cross DJ claims to be one of the first DJ apps on mobile. It has a decent set of features. It includes fairly accurate BPM detection, track syncing, and beat-grid editing. The app also includes five levels of pitch bending (4, 8, 16, 32, 100%). It also comes with a range of features that you can purchase through in-app purchases. That includes an auto-mixer, external mixer support, and sample packs. Picking up an in-app purchase also removes ads and gives you access to more features. It’s not cheap, but it’s otherwise solid.
4. Edjing Mix
Edjing Mix is another one of the more powerful DJ apps. It has a whole bunch of features. Some of the highlights include Deezer support, support for your local library, 16 samples to play with, continuous syncing between two tracks, and looping. There are also turn-tables, SoundCloud access, a crossfader, and you can upload your mixes to the cloud from the app. You can even customize the layout a little bit. There three apps total in the collection. One of them is free or you can buy it for $5.49. The other one is free with additional things that you can purchase as in-app purchases.
5. Traktor Dj
This app has a lot of pros like excellent Traktor experience that’s a bit different from the PC / Mac version, playing on the strengths of the iPad / iPhone’s touchscreen instead of just being a direct port, such as the Freeze and Slice effects. Works perfectly with Native Instruments’ own Traktor Kontrol S2 mk2, Traktor Kontrol S4 mk2, and Traktor Kontrol Z1. However there is no way to pitch bend on the app itself, so you’ll have to keep those beat grids consistent if you want to mix clean unless you’re using it with a Traktor Kontrol S2 / S4 mk2.

This is the best DJ app if you’re concerned with FX. The Pacemaker is perfect for you beginners because it has an excellent balance between simple and a feature-heavy deck, which gives you exposure to complex features while presenting a less-complex interface. It is compatible with both your iPhone and iPad, letting you instant mobile mix on your iPhone or hands-on live spinning on your iPad. This app integrates music from both your iTunes and Spotify apps that provide an endless amount of tracks at your fingertips – making your party mixes sick! The Pacemaker app also comes with audio FX like ChopChop, echo, whitenoise, and many more. If you’re feeling frisky, you can also purchase more sound effects on the app store. This app also comes with a built-in equalizer, crossfaders, and a Scratch setting if you like to mix a little old school Hip-Hop/R&B.
