Celebrities’ Regrettable Tattoos: Cover up!

Tattoos are forever — or at least, you think they are when you get them. But couples break up and people change.

It seemed a good idea at the time, eh? From the stars who discovered breaking up is hard, to those whose unfortunate inks needed a cover-up, stat!

And yet, so many love-crazed folks take the risk anyway….celebrities included. The only difference is A-listers have the unlimited funds to get their unwanted ink zapped off if they so choose, which, if you didn’t know, can cost thousands of dollars depending on the size and the shading of your tattoo.

See which stars removed, covered or otherwise altered the ink they got on behalf of their exes:

1. Zayn Malik

We all know that Zayn famously got a tattoo of a cartoon drawing of then-girlfriend Perrie on his forearm. But, nearly a year to the day that they split up, Zayn got his tattoo of Perrie covered…

The cover-up was debuted on new girlfriend Gigi Hadid’s Snapchat, and although the dark design is as yet indistinguishable, it’s clear Perrie has been erased, in more ways than one. Ouch.

2. Amber Rose

The mother of one has officially moved on from ex Wiz Khalifa, whom she split from in 2014, with Rose opting to cover up a tattoo of the rapper’s face. Where Khalifa’s ink portrait once featured on the 33-year-old’s arm is now a tattoo of what appears to be rocker Slash.

3. Angelina Jolie

It was reported that Jolie once wore a vial of Billy Bob’s blood around her neck while they were together, so it’s not too surprising that the ink-loving actress also had Thorton’s moniker tattooed onto her bicep during their tenure. Now, though, nearly 18 years later, the actress has replaced with the coordinates of her children’s birthplaces, the original tattoo totally undetectable.

4. Charlie Sheen

Following his divorce from Denise Richards, Charlie had his “Denise” tattoo changed to his famous catchphrase “Winning,” complete with quotation marks, making the whole thing seem appropriately ironic.

5. Kaley Cuoco

The Big Bang Theory actress took to Instagram to document her ink addition — which she specifically got to cover up the one of her wedding date to ex Ryan Sweeting. “Note to self — do not mark your body with any future wedding dates,” she wrote, adding, “#under30mistakes #donttakeyourselftooseriouslykids.” The updated body art appears to be an insect — with very specific symbolism: “The deep, meaningful, larger than life meaning behind this beautiful piece of ink is … It covered the last one,” she captioned an Instagram pic.

6. Hedi Klum

Unlike the aforementioned A-listers, Klum opted to have her ink of ex-husband Seal’s name removed after their split, rather than covered up with a totally new tat.

7. Eva Longoria

By the time Eva divorced basketball player Tony Parker, she had not one, but three tattoos devoted to him on her body: their wedding date on her wrist, his jersey number (nine) on the back of her neck, and his initials in an undisclosed “intimate” location. Who knows, one more tattoo and those two crazy kids might have had a shot.

8. Johnny Depp

Arguably the most famous celebrity tattoo do-over belongs to Depp, who got the name of his girlfriend; Winona Ryder emblazoned on his right shoulder as “Winona Forever.” The inscription, sadly, was not prophetic. The couple broke up in the early ’90s. In 1994, Depp had the last two letters of Ryder’s first name removed, creating the motto “Wino Forever.” As he told Playboy, the new tattoo is “actually a bit more accurate.”

A piece of advice: Don’t ink yourself permanently for some temporary love!
