Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is a game made available for early access. Currently it is only available for PC on steam, but plans have been made to make it available at a later date on PS4 and xbox One. Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds for PC was a feature game on reddit recently, and has a large amount of hype surrounding it since many popular live-stream content-makers across platforms like YouTube and twitch are playing it. Even PewDiePie is playing Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds! This game was made by Bluehole, a game developing studio. The game features one map, in which players are dropped into a battle royale style free-for-all Deathmatch. This Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds review will cover 3 main topics, gameplay, pros and cons
In the game the player has to loot and fight their way up the rankings till they’re the only ones left alive. You match up with other players, and play in a sandbox style location similar to many mmorpgs. Then begins a crazy scrabble for weapons, armor and healing items to survive against and kill other players. This game’s main allure lies in how fast-paced and action packed it is.
As soon as you jump into a match you will find yourself in an aircraft, ready to parachute down into Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds warzone. You can choose where and when to drop off, and often times it’s best to plan your drop off point strategically. Do you want to leave early, or wait until the aircraft reaches the island at the end? It’s up to you to decide. Many people like to discuss which drop-off location is best to start out. Things like how much loot and how many enemy players are usually present at the spot you pick, are important things to consider. If you drop into a spot with too many people, you’re going to be hard pressed in finding good loot. The guns and armor will be taken, and you will have to fend for yourself without any equipment.
Don’t expect any mercy, it’s fairly understood to kill any and all players on sight. Even a player without any equipment will get two bullets to the head if they enter the eyes on an enemy. Loot up as quickly as you can and be vigilant. If you thought that the core mechanics of the game end here, then you’re wrong. After a few minutes of looting and (hopefully) killing other players, a safe area gets marked on your map. After that you have a small amount of time to make your way into the safe area before you die. An electric blue field appears in the entire map besides the safe area that zaps away at your health every few seconds that you’re inside it. Get into the safe zone quickly, and plan your next moves accordingly, because the safe area shrinks in size as the game goes on.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds also has vehicles scattered around the map that are important to find and use to get to safe zones faster. As time goes by, more and more of the map will be covered in the deadly electric field. You will also encounter more players, as others are also making their way to the safe zones. A vehicle, healing items, two good guns, armor and a helmet are essential to getting a win.
This covers most of what the game is and if the gameplay sounds interesting to you, you should definitely find it fun
The positive points of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds are its replay-ability and solid gameplay. The visuals are decent on a good computer, not a beautiful game by current standards but not too bad. The controls also handle just fine, after some getting used to, you will feel at ease with the looting and aiming. The interface of the game itself is quite well done, much better than other games of its kind, such as H1Z1’s king-of-the-hill mode.
One criticism of the game is that it brings nothing new to the table. The king of the hill shoot and loot sandbox game type is already implemented inside other games such as ARMA 3 and H1Z1. Those two games are bigger games that have portions of them as extensions into this style of gameplay. It’s just that Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is the first standalone game that brings this gameplay. Additionally there are many glitches in the game. If you exit your vehicle too quickly, it will clip you and cause you to take damage. If you try to go through an opening in a fence, it will often glitch and bug out your car…Be careful getting too close to some walls as well, as you can phase right through them and get stuck. These are bugs gamers would expect from games in 2007, not 2017.
Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is a direct improvement on an already tried and tested formula that is popular amongst many people. The game brings you a cleaner and faster experience, and overall is well-populated and fun for survival / shooter game genre fans.
